How can you make jobs for your team easier?
We deploy to production several times a day.
In most cases, this process requires some form of testing in a QA environment as part of the deployment process.
The problem with this, is that it makes our schedule somewhat unpredictable.
One thing I’m noticing recently is that my responsiveness to this is slipping.
Because I’m taking on more things that aren’t directly related to my testing role (coaching, automation), I’m becoming distracted and missing when my team are deploying.
This means they have to wait for me - or even worse, pull out and try again later in the day. My team are very kind people, but I'm sure it frustrates them.
I don’t know how to make this better - but here’s something I discovered today that I can try.
Slack has alerts that will tell you when a certain key word is mentioned.
Whenever something in our pipeline is ready for testing, we have a bot called Votey McShipFaced that posts an alert in Slack.
So I’m adding an alert that will ping me when they’re about to deploy.
If it works, this will help me focus on what my team are up to, and benefit the team because they won’t be waiting on me all the time!
